What Does the Bible Say About Where Was Tue Hostility From The Crowd?
Scripture reveals that the crowd's hostility toward Jesus was deliberately stirred up and manipulated by religious leaders who wanted Him dead.
Scripture on Where Was Tue Hostility From The Crowd
Matthew 27:20-23
New Testament
"But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. 'Which of the two do you want me to release to you?' asked the governor. 'Barabbas,' they answered. 'What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?' Pilate asked. They all answered, 'Crucify him!' 'Why? What crime has he committed?' asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, 'Crucify him!'"
John 7:12-13
New Testament
"Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, 'He is a good man.' Others replied, 'No, he deceives the people.' But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the Jewish leaders."
Mark 15:8-11
New Testament
"The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them all that he usually did. 'Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?' asked Pilate, knowing it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead."
Luke 23:18-23
New Testament
"With one voice they cried out, 'Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!' (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.) Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. But they kept shouting, 'Crucify him! Crucify him!' For the third time he spoke to them: 'Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him flogged and then release him.' But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed."
John 19:14-15
New Testament
"It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon. 'Here is your king,' Pilate said to the Jews. But they shouted, 'Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!' 'Shall I crucify your king?' Pilate asked. 'We have no king but Caesar,' the chief priests answered."
The Bottom Line
The crowd rejected Jesus because those in power fed them lies—a pattern that happens whenever leaders prioritize control over truth.

Prayer
Jesus promised that if we seek truth with sincere hearts, we will find it—because He Himself is the truth (John 8:32).
Father, I see how easily a crowd can be swayed by those with power and influence, how quickly people repeat what they're told without thinking. Show me where I do this—where I've accepted ideas or judgments without truly examining them against Your Word. Give me courage to think carefully and independently, especially when everyone around me believes something different. Help me pursue truth over belonging, conviction over comfort. Make me someone who follows You because I've encountered You, not because it's what others do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
