Scripture reveals that God's choice of His people flows from His own purpose and foreknowledge, not from anything He sees in us.
Scripture on Election
Romans 8:29-30
New Testament
"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."
Ephesians 1:3-5
New Testament
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will."
2 Thessalonians 2:13
New Testament
"But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth."
1 Peter 1:1-2
New Testament
"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to God's elect, scattered throughout the provinces... who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood."
Deuteronomy 7:6-7
Old Testament
"For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples."
The Bottom Line
God chose you before time began—not because you deserved it, but because His love decided to make you His.
Try Today
When you catch yourself feeling unworthy or uncertain of your place with God, whisper back to yourself: 'He chose me before the foundation of the world.' Let that anchor you.
Prayer
Jesus invites us to come boldly to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16), secure in God's choice of us.
Father, the truth that You chose me before time began is almost too big to hold. I don't deserve this—I know that. Yet You did it anyway, and You call it love. When I doubt whether I'm really Yours, when I feel like an outsider, help me come back to this: You chose me. That settles it. Thank You for calling me, justifying me, and not letting go. Make this real in my heart today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
